On April 11 and 12, the High-Level Forum on the Development of Intelligent Electric Vehicles (2026) took place at the China National Convention Center Phase II in Beijing. Serving as the premier automotive industry summit in the inaugural year of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the forum convened relevant government departments and professionals from the automotive manufacturing, energy, technology, and transportation sectors. Attendees delved into topics centered around intelligence, green development, integration, and internationalization. They collaboratively analyzed market trends, tackled competitive challenges, and strategized technological approaches to facilitate China's transformation from a major automotive nation to a leading global automotive powerhouse.
Su Bo, Deputy Director of the National Strategic Advisory Committee for Building a Manufacturing Powerhouse and former Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, projected that by 2030, new energy vehicles will emerge as the unequivocal market leaders, with a domestic market penetration rate surpassing 70%. He emphasized that core technologies will be fully independently controllable, and the self-sufficiency rate of critical components, such as automotive-grade chips and in-vehicle operating systems, will witness a substantial increase. China is poised to ascend to a position of global leadership in new energy vehicles by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
