Three sources have disclosed that Stellantis Group is currently immersed in in-depth negotiations with Leapmotor, with the aim of jointly developing a pure electric SUV under the esteemed Opel brand. The innovative vehicle will harness Leapmotor's cutting-edge technology and will be meticulously manufactured at Stellantis' state-of-the-art factory located in Zaragoza, Spain. Production is anticipated to commence in 2028, with an ambitious annual production target set at 50,000 units. The negotiations between the two industry giants were initiated at the close of 2025, with the potential for an agreement to be reached as early as this month. Stellantis has affirmed that both parties maintain regular and constructive communication. Meanwhile, Leapmotor has clarified that their discussions are presently focused on the supply of components, and they currently have no plans for platform cooperation.
