The luxury electric vehicle brand BeyonCa, established by Su Weiming, a former vice president of the Volkswagen Group, along with other partners, has shut down its operations in China. This has resulted in hundreds of employees being left without their salaries. The core team of the brand was mainly composed of members from Volkswagen, and it was once seen as a highly promising venture, even earning the title of "Most Investable Enterprise of the Year" in 2022. In 2023, relevant officials set an ambitious sales target of around 100,000 units within a span of 3 to 5 years and forged partnerships with the Saudi Investment Group and the Zhuji Municipal Government. In June 2024, BeyonCa unveiled plans to set up a production base in Hong Kong, but since then, there has been no further news. Initially, the company had intended to commence mass production of its first GT Opus 1 all-electric coupe in 2024. On March 27, 2026, media outlets reported that BeyonCa employees claimed the company had completely halted its operations. Despite securing strategic investments from companies such as Renault and Dongfeng, BeyonCa ultimately faced collapse, plunging its employees and their families into a dire survival crisis due to the non-payment of salaries.
