GAC Toyota and FAW Toyota have jointly declared a recall of 560,160 vehicles manufactured domestically. Specifically, GAC Toyota will be recalling 317,990 Highlander models produced between August 7, 2021, and September 22, 2025. Meanwhile, FAW Toyota will recall 242,170 Crown Kluger vehicles manufactured from July 27, 2021, to January 20, 2026. The root cause of this recall is a design flaw in the second-row seat backrest adjuster, where the return spring exerts excessive force, leading to inadequate locking of the seat backrest. In the unfortunate event of a collision, this issue may compromise the effectiveness of occupant protection, thereby presenting a potential safety risk. To address this concern, both companies will provide free replacements of the improved return springs for the affected vehicles, ensuring the elimination of the hazard.
