On March 25, automotive news outlet Electrek disclosed that BYD is ramping up efforts to establish a robust physical retail presence in Canada. The company aims to inaugurate 20 branded dealerships within the first year and has already pinpointed suitable locations in the Greater Toronto Area. This strategic move comes on the heels of Canada's significant tariff reduction on Chinese electric vehicles, slashing rates from a hefty 100% to a mere 6.1% just two months ago. This policy shift has paved the way for Chinese automakers, particularly BYD, to enter the Canadian market with greater ease.

To facilitate this expansion, BYD has enlisted the services of an automotive retail consulting firm based in Markham, Ontario. This firm will play a pivotal role in scouting and securing optimal dealership sites across the nation. Following its initial foray into the Greater Toronto Area, BYD has ambitions to extend its reach to Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary, thereby encompassing Canada's four key metropolitan regions.
