On March 19, Uber and Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, unveiled a cooperation pact centered around autonomous taxis. As per the terms of this agreement, Uber is set to invest a substantial sum of up to $1.25 billion in Rivian. This investment will commence with an initial outlay of $300 million, with the remaining amount to be funneled in in installments by 2031. The disbursement of these subsequent funds will hinge on Rivian's attainment of specific milestones in particular autonomous driving technologies at various stages. Uber has outlined its ambitious plan to roll out 10,000 fully autonomous Rivian R2 SUVs, which will serve as robotaxis, starting from the year 2028.
