As reported by carscoops, Ford's CEO, Jim Farley, recently had the opportunity to test-drive two Chinese plug-in hybrid pickups—the BYD Shark 6 and the Great Wall Mountain Sea Cannon (its overseas iteration, dubbed Alpha)—down under in Australia. Farley observed that these two models hold their own in scenarios that don't demand heavy-duty performance, making them a good fit for users who are keen on electrification and don't regularly haul substantial loads. Nevertheless, when it comes to the professional tool attributes, particularly payload and towing capacity, these Chinese pickups lag significantly behind traditional stalwarts like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Farley also highlighted that both Ford and Toyota boast decades of technical expertise in areas such as chassis tuning and load adaptation, a level of proficiency that's hard to match in a short span of time.
