Recently, Frank Van Meel, head of BMW's M division, stated that manual transmissions may have no future in BMW's M series, but they will continue to be available for a few more years to meet the demands of loyal fans. He explained that manual transmissions limit torque output, affect fuel consumption, and developing new manual gearboxes is challenging due to the small market segment and suppliers' lack of willingness to invest. Currently, BMW plans to retain manual transmission options in the coming years, but in the long term, it will become increasingly difficult for manual transmissions to continue existing in the next decade.
