On February 13, data released by the CPCA Branch indicated a robust performance in pickup truck production and sales. Specifically, in January 2026, the market witnessed the sale of 49,000 pickup trucks, reflecting a significant 22.5% surge compared to the same period the previous year. This figure represents one of the highest sales levels for this time of year over the past five years. During the same month, production soared to 52,000 pickup trucks, marking a notable 29.3% year-on-year increase.
Regarding exports, the nation exported 28,000 pickup trucks in January, experiencing a 12% year-on-year rise, albeit a 13% decrease from the previous month. Nevertheless, the export share remained substantial. In recent years, the export share of pickup trucks has shown a consistent upward trend, climbing from 45% in 2024 to 50% in 2025, and further escalating to 54% in January 2026. A considerable number of emerging Chinese pickup truck brands have capitalized on exports to achieve remarkable growth, thereby propelling a substantial increase in China's domestically-owned pickup truck exports.
