Based on insights from several reliable sources, Apple is gearing up to enable third-party voice-activated AI chatbots within CarPlay. This integration will empower AI services from renowned companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google (including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini) to engage with users seamlessly through the vehicle's interface. This strategic move marks a significant departure from Siri's current exclusive presence in CarPlay, granting users the ability to directly utilize voice commands to summon AI assistance for intricate tasks. These tasks encompass multi-step navigation, real-time traffic analysis, and the organization of meeting minutes.

However, Apple has set certain boundaries to maintain control over the user experience. Third-party AI services will not be permitted to supplant the Siri button or wake word functionality. Instead, users will be required to manually initiate the app to activate the desired service, while vehicle control will continue to be managed by Siri. This feature is anticipated to debut with an iOS update in the spring of 2026. The primary objective is to elevate the intelligence quotient of in-car systems and effectively counter the competitive pressure exerted by rivals like Android Auto.
