As reported by CarNewsChina, on January 26, four subsidiaries of BYD in the United States initiated legal proceedings by filing a lawsuit with the US Court of International Trade. This move challenges the legitimacy of a series of tariff executive orders issued by the US government under the auspices of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The court made this information public on February 2. The plaintiffs in this case are four key operational entities of BYD in North America, while the defendants encompass the US federal government along with officials from several pivotal departments. BYD is seeking a judicial ruling from the court, asserting that the US lacks the statutory authority to impose tariffs within the framework of the IEEPA. Furthermore, BYD demands that all the contested tariff executive orders be declared null and void, and requests the issuance of a permanent injunction to bar the US from enforcing the aforementioned tariff measures. Additionally, BYD is seeking financial compensation from the US.
