On February 6, Tao Lin, Tesla’s Vice President, unveiled the company’s strategic direction for 2026 at a Beijing exchange event. Addressing the recent visit by Musk’s team to China for supply chain inspections, Tao Lin clarified that the visit might pertain to SpaceX or other initiatives, given Tesla’s longstanding global procurement approach. Recently, teams from Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla have conducted inspections of Chinese photovoltaic companies. The Tesla team is currently engaged in factory audits, while the SpaceX team has already entered into an order cooperation agreement with a leading domestic manufacturer of heterojunction equipment, though this development has not yet been publicly disclosed. In light of these activities, the concept of space photovoltaics has ignited lively discussions in the market. However, Liu Yiyang, Executive Secretary General of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, noted on February 4 that space photovoltaic technology remains in the exploratory and verification phase, making it premature to determine the technological direction at this stage.
