According to a regulatory filing on February 6, LG Energy Solution will terminate its joint venture with Stellantis Group and plans to acquire Stellantis' 49% stake in NextStar Energy at a nominal price of $100. The joint venture, established in March 2022, aimed to build an electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in Canada with an original planned investment of over $4.1 billion and an expected annual production capacity exceeding 45GWh. This acquisition comes at a time when some automakers are scaling back their electric vehicle businesses due to weak policy support and sluggish market demand.
