Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), revealed in a recent article that global auto sales reached 8.86 million vehicles in December 2025, marking a 2% year-on-year increase. Annual sales for the year totaled 96.47 million units, up 5% from the previous year. However, the growth rate of global auto sales eased in December, primarily due to softer performances in the Chinese and U.S. markets. In contrast, China’s auto market demonstrated robust vitality, with sales climbing to 34.35 million units in 2025—a 9% year-on-year surge. This propelled China’s global market share to 35.6%, up 1.4 percentage points from 2024. Among the world’s top 10 automakers, three Chinese brands—BYD (5th), Geely (7th), and Chery (10th)—achieved notable gains in market share. Meanwhile, amid the ongoing shift toward electrification, some international automakers are facing gradual decline, with their overall market share experiencing a downward trend.
