A number of consumers who have placed pre-orders for the Li Auto i6 have been notified that, owing to "capacity preparation and scaling up of core components falling below anticipated levels,"—a situation speculated to be linked to the battery supply from CATL—the production progress for certain orders has been impacted, resulting in an estimated delivery delay of 4 to 6 weeks. In the first quarter of 2025, sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) witnessed a substantial year-on-year surge. This led to a particularly pronounced supply-demand imbalance for batteries in certain high-end vehicle models. As a high-volume model, the Li Auto i6 imposes stringent demands on the supply chain for high-energy-density batteries. To mitigate user concerns during the waiting period, Li Auto has rolled out three compensation solutions. The delivery hurdles encountered by the i6 serve as a microcosm of the rapid evolution of China's new energy vehicle sector. From January to August 2025, the market penetration rate of NEVs in China soared to 45%, with the installed capacity of power batteries experiencing rapid year-on-year growth. Nevertheless, the market is characterized by a "structural divide," with an oversupply of low-end batteries and a scarcity of high-end, premium-quality capacity.
