On January 29, media sources revealed that Li Auto is set to embark on a fresh round of organizational restructuring within its R&D division. Following the reshuffle, the R&D setup will be categorized into three principal units: the foundational model unit, the software entity unit, and the hardware entity unit. As of now, Li Auto has not issued any official statement regarding this development. In this reorganization, the former autonomous driving unit has been dissolved. Lang Xianpeng, previously serving as the Senior Vice President of Autonomous Driving R&D, will assume the leadership role of the hardware entity unit, overseeing robot R&D endeavors, and will directly report to Ma Donghui, the President of Li Auto. The autonomous driving unit will be integrated into the software entity unit, which is helmed by Gou Xiaofei. As the Vice President of Li Auto's Intelligent Space division, Gou Xiaofei will be in charge of the R&D efforts for intelligent cockpits and autonomous driving technologies, also reporting to Ma Donghui. The foundational model unit will be steered by Zhan Kun, who will be responsible for orchestrating the fusion of VLA (Vision-Language-Action) models and in-house-developed chips, and will report to Xie Yan, the CTO of Li Auto.
