There are indications that Chery might embark on car production at Jaguar Land Rover's plant in the UK. Earlier, the UK government had proactively pursued the possibility of having certain Chery models manufactured within its borders. As of now, the negotiations between the two entities are still in their nascent stages, with no concrete terms having been finalized. The UK's Secretary of State for Business has verified that the government is keen on seeing Chery manufacture cars in the UK, considering Jaguar Land Rover's existing plant as a feasible choice. Such a development would significantly contribute to the UK's ambition of producing 1.3 million cars per year by 2035. Notably, Chery's Omoda and Jaecoo brands have witnessed a swift surge in popularity within the UK market. Nevertheless, sources within Chery have highlighted that the exorbitant energy and labor costs in the UK pose major hurdles for the establishment and expansion of local manufacturing facilities. Furthermore, Jaguar Land Rover and Chery have already forged a joint venture, and in 2024, Chery was granted a license to develop pure electric models under the Land Rover Discovery brand.
