Li Auto is set to embark on a fresh round of organizational restructuring, reconfiguring its R&D framework into three principal teams: the foundational model team, the software development team, and the hardware development team. A key aspect of this reorganization involves the division of the autonomous driving unit. Lang Xianpeng, formerly Senior Vice President of Autonomous Driving, will now head the hardware development team, steering robotics R&D initiatives and reporting directly to President Ma Donghui. The autonomous driving team will be absorbed into the software development team, which will be led by Gou Xiaofei. Gou Xiaofei will be in charge of the R&D efforts for intelligent cockpits and intelligent driving systems, also reporting to Ma Donghui. Meanwhile, the foundational model team will be under the leadership of Zhan Kun, who will oversee the integration of Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models and in-house chip development, reporting to CTO Xie Yan. Li Xiang, the founder of Li Auto, explained that the realignment of the R&D team is a strategic move to keep pace with the new wave of AI competition.
