Back in 2024, Canada slapped a hefty 100% surtax on electric vehicles (EVs) imported from China, effectively blocking Chinese EVs from entering the Canadian market. However, based on the latest policy adjustment, Canada is set to allocate an annual quota of 49,000 Chinese-made electric vehicles. EVs falling within this quota will be subject to a most-favored-nation tariff rate of 6.1%, instead of the additional 100% surtax. Furthermore, the quota is expected to grow annually and could potentially reach 70,000 units within the next five years.
