On January 19, Reuters reported that after Canada canceled its policy of imposing a 100% surtax on Chinese-made electric vehicles, Tesla is expected to be among the first automakers to benefit. Previously, Canada granted an annual import quota of 49,000 vehicles for Chinese electric vehicles, with those within the quota enjoying a most-favored-nation tariff rate of 6.1%, and the quota increasing annually. Tesla, which started exporting vehicles from its Shanghai Gigafactory to Canada relatively early and has a sales network there, is set to benefit.
