The System LSI business division of Samsung Electronics has finalized the development of a 5G modem tailored for Tesla. This modem has now advanced to the testing stage. It is anticipated that Samsung will commence product supply in the first half of 2026, with the initial rollout set for Tesla's Robotaxi autonomous taxi fleet. The project was initiated in 2024. In this endeavor, Samsung took charge of the chip design, while the module production was entrusted to external partners. Considering the stringent standards for automotive-grade components, Samsung opted to carry out independent research and development. Historically, Tesla had relied on modems from Qualcomm. However, this new partnership with Samsung is poised to diminish Tesla's reliance on a single supplier, thereby enhancing supply chain resilience.
