On January 5, 2026, Honda revealed that the resumption of operations at three GAC Honda plants would be further delayed by around two weeks, pushing the restart date to January 19. Originally, production was set to resume on January 5. Earlier, starting from December 29, 2025, these GAC Honda plants had experienced a multi-day shutdown, with production repeatedly interrupted due to a scarcity of chips stemming from Nexperia's halted supply.
In the meantime, Honda's factories in Japan also suspended production for two days, from January 5 to 6, 2026, and scaled back production from January 7 to 9. It is projected that this semiconductor shortage will slash Honda's operating profit by roughly 150 billion yen in the 2026 fiscal year.
