On January 2, news broke that Tesla (TSLA.O) witnessed an 8.6% slump in its car sales volume over the past year, causing it to significantly lag behind BYD in the global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer rankings. On Friday, Tesla disclosed that its deliveries in the fourth quarter plummeted by 16%, reaching only 418,227 units, a figure that fell far short of analysts' projections. In stark contrast, BYD enjoyed a surge in EV sales both for the quarter and the entire year. Annually, BYD delivered close to 2.26 million units, a stark contrast to Tesla's 1.64 million. Wall Street is growing increasingly wary of Tesla's sales prospects for 2026. The average forecasts from analysts have dwindled from over 3 million units two years prior to approximately 1.8 million units at present.
