On January 2nd, Beijing time, Nikkei Asia reported that BYD is projected to overtake Tesla in annual sales volume for the first time, securing its position as the world’s largest seller of electric vehicles. According to data released by BYD on Thursday, its sales of purely electric vehicles in 2025 surged by 28% year-on-year, hitting a record 2.25 million units. While Tesla has yet to disclose its annual sales figures, market estimates released on Monday suggest a year-on-year decline of 8%, with sales expected to reach roughly 1.64 million units.
