Recently, Musk's tunnel-digging venture, The Boring Company, made an announcement. Its Vegas Loop tunnel transportation service now extends to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. This marks a significant stride in the company's pursuit of developing an underground transportation network in the city. Currently, the Vegas Loop ticketing platform has rolled out the airport route, with a one-way fare set at around $12 (approximately RMB 84.1).

Passengers have the option to start their journey from Resorts World Las Vegas or Westgate. From there, they can hop on a Cybertruck off-road vehicle bound for Terminal 1 or 3. At present, the trip operates in a “tunnel + surface roads” hybrid mode. This is because the underground tunnel directly connecting to the airport is still under construction and not yet open for use. So, vehicles have to first exit the tunnel and then traverse urban roads to complete the final stretch of the journey.

For now, the service is exclusively for drop-offs. It runs daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with vehicles pulling up at the curbside on the airport's departure level to let passengers off. Once all Loop vehicles are outfitted with onboard transponders, the platform will kick off pick-up services. This will enable passengers to board at the Zero Level area of Terminals 1 and 3.

So far, the Vegas Loop has built over 10 miles (approximately 16.1 kilometers) of tunnels. About 4 miles (approximately 6.4 kilometers) of these tunnels are already in operation for passenger service. Existing stations include those at Encore, Resorts World, Westgate, and multiple stations within the Las Vegas Convention Center campus.

The company is currently in the process of constructing a duplicate airport tunnel that spans roughly 2.25 miles (about 3.6 kilometers). The target is to have it up and running in the first quarter of 2026. Once completed, the majority of airport-related trips will shift to underground operations. This will help alleviate surface traffic congestion and boost travel efficiency.

This new connection will also link up with the University Center Loop. Planned stations will cover areas near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, the Sphere area, and there's even a planned connection to an apartment project owned by The Boring Company.

According to the overarching plan, the Vegas Loop will eventually expand to 68 miles (approximately 109.4 kilometers) with 104 stations. It will encompass the Las Vegas Strip, the Old Town, Chinatown, Allegiant Stadium, and the airport, forming a comprehensive urban underground transportation network.
