On Wednesday, the US automobile safety regulatory authority announced the launch of a defect investigation targeting around 179,071 Tesla Model 3 compact sedans from the 2022 model year. The investigation stems from concerns that the emergency door release controls may not be readily accessible or clearly identifiable during emergency scenarios. On December 23, the agency received a petition regarding the defect, which highlighted that the vehicle's mechanical door release mechanism was concealed and lacked any marking, posing a challenge for intuitive location in urgent situations. Tesla has not yet provided an immediate response to requests for comments.
