On December 23, 2025, Beijing marked a historic moment as it officially issued the first batch of national L3-level autonomous driving license plates. The BAIC-produced ARCFOX Alpha S (L3 version) has successfully registered for three such plates, bearing the numbers Beijing AA0001Z, Beijing AA0733Z, and Beijing AA0880Z, thereby obtaining legal authorization for road operation.
This model received the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's approval for autonomous driving product market access on December 15. Just seven days later, it completed the license plate registration process, signifying its transition from technical validation to legal road deployment.
The ARCFOX Alpha S (L3 version) stands out as the sole model among the first batch of approved vehicles to be equipped with LiDAR technology. This feature provides crucial hardware support for safety redundancy in its perception system, enhancing its autonomous driving capabilities.
Prior to the license plate issuance, the model underwent rigorous autonomous driving traffic regulation compliance tests organized by public security traffic management authorities. Additionally, it conducted comprehensive emergency drills simulating traffic accidents and violations on designated pilot highway sections.
According to the operational plan, these vehicles will initially engage in pilot operations on specific segments of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway, Airport North Line Expressway, and Daxing Airport Expressway. This phase aims to accumulate operational experience, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent large-scale commercial deployment of autonomous driving technology.
