On December 19, after wrapping up an inquiry into several automakers suspected of engaging in unfair commercial practices, Italian regulatory authorities declared that these automakers would start featuring clearer and more detailed performance information about electric vehicles on their official websites. Earlier in the year, the Italian Competition Authority initiated an investigation into automakers like Stellantis (STLA.N), Tesla (TSLA.O), and Volkswagen. The focus was on the information these companies provide to consumers regarding the driving range, battery capacity degradation, and restrictions tied to the standard battery warranty of electric vehicles. The regulatory authority highlighted that the driving range details shown on these automakers' official websites were ambiguous and, at times, inconsistent. They failed to clearly outline the factors influencing the maximum driving range and the degree to which these factors affected the actual driving range. Moreover, these websites didn't offer consumers straightforward and complete information on how battery capacity degrades due to normal vehicle usage, along with the terms and constraints of standard battery warranties.
