Facing persistent pressure from the automotive sector, the European Union is set to revise its new car emission standards and is contemplating a relaxation of the initially planned 2035 ban on internal combustion engines. Sources familiar with the matter have revealed that the European Commission is poised to permit the sale of a variety of plug-in hybrid vehicles as well as electric vehicles fitted with fuel-powered range extenders. This move would ease the strict mandate to entirely cease the sales of new gasoline and diesel vehicles.
