The Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) has recently made it unequivocally clear that it has not pledged to authorize Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, thereby adding another layer of difficulty to Tesla's efforts to advance its technology in the European market. Although Tesla has persistently indicated that the FSD system is on the verge of being introduced in Europe, the wary stance adopted by regulatory bodies underscores that fully autonomous driving technology must still clear rigorous legal and safety assessment benchmarks. The RDW underscored that all autonomous driving technologies are subject to the EU's standardized type approval procedure, and Tesla's FSD system has yet to provide the complete set of documents required for compliance. At present, the EU's stipulations for the approval of autonomous driving systems surpassing Level 3 encompass critical elements such as data transparency, system redundancy design, and the delineation of liability. Tesla must resolve these matters before it can move forward with the deployment of its FSD system.
