On November 18th at 4:30 p.m., the temperature in Jinghe County, within the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, plummeted to -7°C. Lan Shuxin, who runs the ZTO Express outlet, used the Neolix App to activate a white, cockpit-less driverless vehicle. This vehicle navigates its routes using LiDAR technology and is capable of delivering over 500 parcels daily to eight different stations. According to Lan Shuxin's estimates, employing this driverless vehicle can save roughly 200 yuan per day in fuel and labor expenses. If the daily delivery volume hits 1,000 parcels, the investment can be recouped within a year. In sparsely populated regions like Jinghe County—which is 24 times the size of Beijing's Chaoyang District but has a population only one twenty-fourth of its size—the driverless vehicle effectively addresses delivery challenges in remote villages. Some of these villages are located 60 kilometers away from the outlet. Traditional delivery methods typically transport only 2-3 parcels per trip, whereas the driverless vehicle can bridge this service gap. The device has undergone rigorous testing in extreme environments: Since late 2023, JiuZhi Intelligence has been conducting regular operations in areas like Fuxin, Liaoning, where temperatures range from -30°C to 60°C. Its autonomous driving algorithm is updated monthly, allowing it to manage complex weather conditions, including sandstorms, fog, and snow. At the policy level, over a hundred cities across the country have granted road access for driverless deliveries, and several regions in Xinjiang have facilitated implementation through government-enterprise collaboration models. For instance, Lan Shuxin had to undergo nearly a month of joint testing with postal, transportation, and public security departments before receiving approval to operate on the roads. In terms of industry statistics, by the end of 2024, there were over 6,000 driverless delivery vehicles in operation nationwide, with companies such as ZTO Express, J&T Express, and SF Express already utilizing them on a large scale. Among these, ZTO Express plans to deploy nearly 3,000 units in 2025, and China Post intends to purchase 7,000 units over the next three to four years. Regarding technological advancements, Neolix has secured over $600 million in Series D financing, while JiuZhi Intelligence has raised a total of $400 million across two Series B funding rounds, with the funds allocated for vehicle model updates and algorithm optimization.
