All-solid-state batteries are poised to emerge as a significant catalyst propelling the advancement of the new energy vehicle sector. China has now successfully set up its inaugural high-capacity production line for all-solid-state batteries and has initiated small-scale testing and manufacturing. In contrast to conventional lithium-ion batteries, all-solid-state batteries are devoid of any liquid components. Their superiority stems from two groundbreaking innovations: The anode production employs a dry process, amalgamating three previously distinct processes into a single, unified operation. This consolidation not only reduces energy consumption and enhances efficiency but also achieves a higher energy density. Moreover, by eschewing the traditional liquid electrolyte in favor of a self-developed solid-state electrolyte material, the battery's resistance to heat and overall safety have been significantly bolstered.

The inaugural production line of GAC Group has successfully fulfilled the prerequisites for large-scale production of vehicle-grade all-solid-state batteries boasting capacities in excess of 60 ampere-hours. The energy density of the all-solid-state batteries crafted by GAC Group is nearly twice that of current batteries, empowering vehicles originally capable of traveling over 500 kilometers to extend their range to over 1,000 kilometers upon integrating these batteries. GAC Group has outlined plans to conduct small-scale vehicle installation trials in 2026, with a phased approach to mass production slated from 2027 to 2030.
