On November 3, 2025, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) declared the initiation of an investigation concerning the door - handles of specific Tesla models, following a noticeable uptick in the number of complaints received. According to these complaints, after vehicle battery malfunctions, car owners found themselves unable to enter or exit their vehicles in the normal manner. In some distressing cases, children were left trapped inside the vehicles. In response, the NHTSA has formally requested Tesla to submit a detailed response by December 10, so as to facilitate the completion of the technical review in a cooperative manner.
