Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the largest automobile manufacturer in the UK, has announced an extension of its global production shutdown, which was triggered by a cyberattack, until at least October 1. This suspension initially commenced on August 31. The cyberattack has compelled 33,000 employees across the globe to halt their operations. As a consequence, the company is incurring daily revenue losses amounting to tens of millions of pounds. This incident has also sparked concerns regarding the stability of the supply chain and the effectiveness of the UK's industrial cybersecurity defenses.
The UK government has intervened to aid in the recovery of the affected systems. However, industry experts caution that the production shutdown might persist until November. Such a prolonged halt could potentially drive some supply chain companies into bankruptcy and trigger widespread layoffs.
