Tesla is currently under federal investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for failing to promptly report traffic accidents as mandated. On Thursday, the NHTSA released documents revealing that its Office of Defects Investigation discovered that several accident reports submitted by Tesla pertained to incidents that had occurred months, or even longer, prior to the reported dates. As per regulations, automakers are required to submit reports within 1 to 5 business days of becoming aware of an accident. The NHTSA highlighted that these delays were due to deficiencies in Tesla's internal data collection processes. However, Tesla has since stated that the issue has been resolved. The NHTSA has launched an audit investigation to examine the causes and extent of the reporting delays, along with Tesla's corrective actions.
