SmartSens has recently introduced the SC5D8XS, the industry's pioneering 50-megapixel ultra-high dynamic range mobile image sensor. This sensor supports LOFIC technology across both 1X and 2X focal lengths. Leveraging Lofic HDR 4.0 technology, the SC5D8XS is the first to achieve LOFIC functionality at the 2X focal length, boasting a maximum dynamic range of up to 110dB at 1X and 100dB at 2X. By utilizing a three-frame fusion technique within a single exposure, it effectively minimizes motion blur. For video recording, the SC5D8XS supports 4K 60fps high dynamic range and high frame rate video in Lofic HDR 4.0 mode, along with 4K 120fps ultra-high frame rate video in PixGain HDR mode.
In terms of focusing capabilities, the 1X focal length in LOFIC mode offers 6% partial pixel phase detection autofocus, while the 2X focal length delivers 100% full-pixel autofocus. In standard mode, the sensor integrates AllPix ADAF and Sparse PDAF technologies, facilitating adaptive switching between two rapid focusing modes. Furthermore, the SC5D8XS employs an advanced 22nm Stack process, featuring meticulously optimized power consumption that significantly reduces energy use. In Lofic HDR 4.0 high-definition video mode, power consumption is approximately 550mW, which is about 18% lower than the previous generation, and it drops to 200mW in regular operating mode. The sensor has already commenced mass production.
