On October 28, 2026, Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation made a significant announcement—the launch of the LYTIA 720 mobile image sensor. Mass production and shipment of this cutting-edge sensor are slated to commence in early November.

The LYTIA 720 boasts a 1/1.56-inch stacked CMOS design, packing approximately 50 million effective pixels. With a single-pixel size of 1.0 micrometers, it is primarily tailored for the smartphone primary camera market, promising to elevate mobile photography to new heights.

One of the standout features of the LYTIA 720 is its incorporation of Sony's proprietary UHCG circuit technology. This innovative technology enables the sensor to reduce random noise in low-light environments by around 50% compared to its predecessors. In addition, it supports Hybrid Frame-HDR technology, achieving an impressive high dynamic range of 100dB. This effectively tackles the common issues of underexposure in dark areas and overexposure in bright areas, ensuring well-balanced and detailed images.

Moreover, through the optimization of the AD conversion circuit, the LYTIA 720 not only cuts down on power consumption but also, for the first time in its size class, offers full-pixel autofocus for 4K 60fps HDR video recording. This breakthrough enhances video quality, making it a game-changer for mobile videography enthusiasts.
