In response to soaring component costs, major PC manufacturers such as HP, ASUS, and Acer are relocating some of their production from Thailand and Vietnam back to China, and engaging new-generation Chinese contract manufacturers. Currently, AI demand has led to severe shortages of memory and storage components, driving up bill-of-materials costs. With advantages such as a skilled and lower-cost labor force and a complete supply chain ecosystem, China remains the optimal choice for PC manufacturing. Additionally, leading contract manufacturers are busy fulfilling orders for AI data center servers, which offer higher profit margins, prompting PC vendors to turn to more Chinese contract manufacturers capable of providing highly competitive pricing. Currently, Dell is also evaluating similar supply chain adjustments, and if the cost environment does not improve, PC manufacturers may shift more production back to China. Acer stated that it has been dynamically adjusting its supply chain operations to enhance resilience and maintain competitiveness, while HP, Dell, and ASUS have not yet commented on the matter.
