The journey of technical exploration for Apple's inaugural foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, dates back to 2011. In a recent interview with Time magazine, Apple CEO John Ternus disclosed that he, accompanied by a team of five engineers, collectively filed a patent application for flexible electronic devices that same year. This patent encompassed designs for batteries, circuit boards, and various other essential components necessary for foldable devices. At that time, Ternus foresaw that OLED screens would eventually gain the ability to bend. Patent records confirm that the application was submitted in September 2011, with Ternus listed as one of the six co-inventors.
