Apple is encountering fresh regulatory hurdles in the Indian market. The nation’s consumer protection authority has intensified its scrutiny of Apple’s software warranty policies, launching a thorough investigation. This move comes in response to a surge in user repair disputes following the iOS 18 update, with a particular focus on whether Apple’s stance of not covering software failures under warranty infringes upon consumer rights.
Previously, a significant number of iPhone users in India have voiced their grievances, stating that they were compelled to shoulder hefty repair costs due to Apple’s exclusion of software failures from its warranty scope. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) of India has reached out to Apple regarding these concerns, highlighting the potential violation of consumer rights.
In response, Apple has argued that not offering warranties for software issues is a prevalent practice within the industry and that iOS 18 does not suffer from systemic problems. As of now, the investigation is still in progress, and the findings are yet to be disclosed.
