On Tuesday, Apple declared that, in an effort to bridge the gap with the European Commission regarding commercial terms, it would streamline the app commission framework within the EU market. The revamped strategy does away with the fundamental technology fee that was previously based on the number of installations, substituting it with a flat 5% commission on digital goods transactions for apps that are disseminated through channels other than the App Store or via web pages. Concurrently, Apple has modified the fee structures for alternative payment methods and in-app purchases for its proprietary apps, and has eased the requirements for developers seeking to establish alternative app stores.
