Sony has officially launched its lightweight full-frame super-telephoto zoom lens, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS. Priced at a suggested retail of 5,499 yuan, this lens is slated for release in mid-August 2026. Despite covering an impressive 400mm focal length, the lens has been designed with significant weight reduction in mind. It measures just 16.4 cm in length, approximately 7.8 cm in diameter, and weighs a mere 654 grams, making it highly portable for photographers on the go.

The lens features a dual linear motor, enabling seamless AF/AE tracking during high-speed continuous shooting at speeds of up to approximately 120 frames per second. This makes it an ideal choice for capturing fast-moving subjects with precision and clarity. Additionally, the lens is fully compatible with Sony's original 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, allowing photographers to extend the maximum focal length to an astonishing 800mm, thus opening up new possibilities for wildlife, sports, and other distant subject photography.

To ensure steady shots, the lens incorporates a built-in optical image stabilization system. This system works in harmony with the camera body's five-axis image stabilization, providing enhanced stability and reducing blur caused by camera shake. Moreover, the lens features a breathing compensation function, which minimizes focus breathing—a common issue in telephoto lenses where the image size changes slightly during focusing.

Another notable feature of the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS is its new focus distance limiter setting.
