Valve's range of hardware products is currently under substantial cost pressure, driven by a surge in the prices of essential components like memory, flash storage, and processors. According to Bloomberg, Qualcomm, the primary chip provider for Valve's upcoming Steam Frame VR headset, has implemented a double-digit percentage hike in chip prices. This adjustment has resulted in a significant rise in the production costs of the Steam Frame, potentially pushing its retail price beyond the $1,000 threshold. The Steam Frame is anticipated to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 16GB of RAM, and storage options of either 256GB or 1TB. Such high-end specifications have inevitably driven up the material costs. Initially, Valve aimed to set the price of the Steam Frame below that of its predecessor, the Index, which was priced at $999. However, given the current cost dynamics, industry observers widely anticipate that the final price of the Steam Frame will exceed the $1,000 mark.
