On July 14th, a significant technological leap forward was made in the inspection of transmission lines within the secluded mountainous regions of Jianshui County, situated in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Operating under challenging circumstances devoid of 4G or 5G connectivity and lacking ground-based differential positioning support, a drone successfully established a direct satellite link to perform an autonomous inspection of the transmission lines. This feat was accomplished through the utilization of a self-developed system, which forged a direct communication channel from the 'ground station to satellite to drone', effectively surmounting the hurdle of conducting inspections in areas with no signal coverage and achieving a practical level of accuracy.

Project leader Li Bingchen emphasized that this innovation dismantles the constraint that inspection drones must rely on remote controllers for flight connectivity, thereby enabling them to conduct autonomous inspections even in areas devoid of signals. Notably, approximately 4,500 kilometers of transmission lines in Yunnan Province traverse through mountainous terrains that lack signal coverage. With the advent of this technology, at least 90% of these regions can now be subjected to automatic drone inspections, marking a significant advancement in the field.
