On July 13, foreign media reported that Apple has informed its suppliers of its intention to manufacture approximately 10 million foldable iPhones this year, surpassing the earlier projection of 7 to 8 million units. Concurrently, Apple has also asked manufacturers in its supply chain to ensure sufficient component reserves for the second half of 2026, in order to support the production of 80 million iPhones. This production plan encompasses the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's inaugural foldable iPhone model. It is anticipated that Apple's total mobile phone production in 2026 will surpass 220 million units. However, several insiders within the industry chain have adopted a cautious stance regarding the shipment volume of Apple's first foldable iPhone. Lin Keyu, a senior analyst at Counterpoint, posits that the ambitious target of tens of millions of units may be overly optimistic and could simply indicate an uptick in inventory levels for certain components. He predicts that Apple's foldable smartphone shipments in 2026 will likely reach around 6 to 7 million units.
