Amid the global consumer electronics market's upheaval caused by a memory chip shortage, Apple is defying the norm by instructing its suppliers to ramp up production in a bid to seize a larger market share. According to the latest reports, Apple has asked its suppliers to manufacture roughly 10 million foldable iPhones this year—a significant increase from the previously projected 7 million to 8 million units. Apple has made notable strides in resolving the hinge technology challenges for its foldable iPhones and anticipates initiating small-scale shipments immediately following the autumn launch. Large-scale production could commence by the end of the year. Furthermore, Apple has secured components for producing 80 million units of its inaugural foldable screen and iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max models for the second half of 2026. The company has also indicated that the production volume for the new iPhone models might hit 85 million units.
