During the first quarter of 2026, China’s mainland market for PCs and tablets experienced a year-on-year decline, with shipments dropping by 2% and 5%, respectively. In detail, total PC shipments fell to 8.9 million units, while tablet shipments decreased to 8.3 million units. Breaking it down further, notebook shipments saw a significant year-on-year decrease of 19%, reaching 5.3 million units. In contrast, desktop shipments exhibited a notable increase, rising by 41% year-on-year to 3.6 million units.

The primary factors contributing to this market sluggishness were the escalating costs of components, which drove up device prices, and the reduction in consumer subsidies, which weakened demand. Looking ahead, Omdia predicts that for the entire year of 2026, shipments in China’s mainland PC market will decline by 14% year-on-year, totaling 36 million units. Meanwhile, the tablet market is expected to see an 11% year-on-year decrease, with shipments reaching 32 million units.
