Google announced that starting from September 30, 2026, it will take the lead in implementing the Android Developer Verification Program in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. This program requires app developers to complete identity verification, and apps from unverified developers will not be able to be sideloaded directly. Users will need to go through an advanced installation process to install such apps, which includes enabling developer options, confirming non-coercive installation, device restart, a 24-hour waiting period, and biometric verification. Google also offers free limited distribution accounts for students and amateur developers, allowing apps to be shared with up to 20 devices. This program will be expanded globally in 2027. Additionally, the ADB tool can bypass some restrictions, and permission settings completed after the advanced process can be linked to a Google account and automatically inherited when switching to a new device. Android phones sold in mainland China are generally not affected by this policy as they do not come pre-installed with GMS.
