The PC Industry Collectively Reverts to the DDR4 Era

Tom’s Hardware learned from more than six sources at Computex 2026 that due to the shortage and soaring prices of DDR5, which have raised the threshold for PC assembly, motherboard and memory manufacturers are shifting their production capacity to DDR4 platforms. Overall motherboard sales have declined this year, with some manufacturers experiencing drops of up to 37%. At least two manufacturers have confirmed plans to increase production of DDR4-compatible motherboards in the second half of the year and throughout 2027.
