Snap is poised to unveil its standalone true AR glasses, the Specs, this autumn, with a price tag hovering around $2,500 and an initial production run of roughly 100,000 units. In contrast to the earlier Spectacles development kit tailored for developers, the Specs boast a more compact design, are lighter in weight, and pack more processing power. Operating on the Snap OS platform, they offer compatibility with all existing applications. Snap OS, though built upon the Android foundation, restricts the installation of APK files and native code. Instead, developers are required to craft sandboxed 'Lenses' applications via the Lens Studio software. These apps are characterized by swift startup times, uniform interactions, and support for shared experiences among multiple users, albeit without multitasking capabilities at present.
